Step 1: Leaving Busy Windermere
The route begins at the ‘welcome to Orrest Head’ signs. Then a short walk along the pavement, soon transitions into a well-marked path that gradually winds uphill.
Step 2: Ascending the Main Path
The path soon begins a steady climb towards Orrest Head. It’s a gradual ascent with easy-to-follow steps and a well-trodden trail. The walk takes you through peaceful woodland, offering occasional glimpses of the surrounding fells as you climb.
Step 3: The Accessible Path
For those looking for a more accessible route, there is an alternative path available. This path has a smoother gradient and is designed to be easier underfoot, making it ideal for families or those preferring a more gradual ascent. Follow the blue arrows.
Step 4: Final Push to the Summit
As you near the summit, the path opens up, and you get your first full view of the surrounding landscape. The final section of the trail is still fairly gentle, and soon enough, you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views from the top.
